Roots of Yggdrasil
A downloadable game for Windows
Roots of Yggdrasil has been created in under 48 hours as part of the Global Game Jam 2023 #GGJ2023.
In Roots of Yggdrasil, you play as The Guardian, a mystical being tasked by the goddess Freyja to protect a young sapling which will soon grow into the mighty tree Yggdrasil.
The spirit of the tree will bless you with different attacks and skills every game, so no game is the same while you use them to defend the roots from monsters. Everytime the tree grows, you will gain a random new ability - but also, the monsters you face will become stronger and more powerful.
The game is played with Mouse and Keyboard, though we also have included the option to play with a Guitar Hero guitar, because this is a Gamejam and why not.
Use WASD to move your character. Click the Left Mouse Button to unleash all your attacks, if their cooldown is available. Click the Right Mouse Button to use your defensive abilitiy (which you will gain upon reaching Stage 2).
The more Roots the tree is able to grow, the more maximum health your Guardian will have, and the faster Yggdrasil will be able to grow and give you more powerful abilities.
While most monsters will target the Roots, some will hunt you down. Make sure you don't die, as this will end the game.
Now good luck, Guardian, and protect Yggdrasil!

Finally a game with "guitar hero" controls support!
Right? I mean, what's the point of a game jam when you can't jam?
lovely art!
Thank you!
